One of the main aims of Zelena Strandja is organizing and participating in various regional, national and international eco programs and events, touristic events, and sport competitions to promote nature and increase the health and physical activity of people. Over the last two years, more than 4,000 people have taken part in various activities of the association, 24% of whom were children. Apart from nature activities, the Association also performs many charity eco-actions in urban environments with information and educational purposes, mainly with volunteers, kindergartens and schools. In order to increase the environmental education among the teenagers, in the beginning of 2016 the Association founded an informal club "Mountaineers" in three schools on the territory of the city of Burgas. With the children enrolled in the club theoretical classes on nature themes and outings in nature are held. In September 2016, a clean-up of beaches to the south of Ahtopol was organized together with the Town hall, which involved 25 young people and gathered a total of 2 tons of household waste dumped from the sea. Under the project "Volunteers - Sport and Nature", funded by the National Youth Program 2016
-    2020 in the winter of 2016 - 2017, there were organized actions for cleaning the Strandja beach, afforestation and sporting events. From 2015, Green Strandzha organizes the sport-tourist holiday "Strandzha No Limits", which aims to promote the incredible opportunities for tourism, sports, recreation and entertainment in Strandja Mountain. The holiday is held in spring and autumn and so far has had 4 editions. From 2016, Green Strandja Association together with the Municipality of Burgas and the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation organize a winter half marathon Atanasovsko Lake
-    20 km of running and cycling, aiming at popularizing the Atanasovsko Lake Reserve among the people. So far, the competition has been held four times.

Polluted areas in the region of Atanasovsko Lake

Atanasovsko Lake is a lake located within the borders of Burgas, between the neighborhoods of Izgrev and Sarafovo and west of them. It is part of the Burgas lake complex and borders on the east through Atanasovska “kosa” (which is about 1 km long strip of sand) with the Black Sea. The lake is coastal and offers a great diversity of flora and fauna, some of which are protected by the Biodiversity Act and are globally endangered. Atanasovsko Lake is connected by numerous canals with the Black Sea, through which it is drained. Unfortunately, the beautiful and romantic lake is heavily polluted with household waste, especially in the area of the bird observatory, along the canal, which starts from the area around the Lukoil gas station, to the round crossroad at the beginning of the Izgrev complex. We would like to invite everyone who has the opportunity to participate in the cleaning on August 21, 2020.
