On 20th and 21st of September 2019 in Odessa, Ukraine was held a round table on discussing good waste management practices and activities to increase the engagement for cleaner rivers and sea in the Black Sea region. The round table was held with the participation of MARLENA partners and representatives of the stakeholders from the region.
The meeting started with welcoming speeches from the host - the director of the Institute of market problems and economic and ecological research to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Acad. Prof. dr. of economics Boris Burkinski and representatives of the other partners in the project – Rejep Gun from Municipality Demirkoy, Turkey; Vladimir Dimitrov from Green Strandzha Association; Deyan Yorov-coordinator and Tonka Stoeva – deputy mayor from Malko Turnovo municipality, Bulgaria; Arthur Nebunu from Ecological Counseling CenterCahul, Republic of Moldova; Elena Kardash from FLAG - Association for Sustainable Development ”Prut -Dunare” Galati, Romania.
Interesting waste management practices were presented by Engin Yuzturk - Director of Kirklareli Regional Environmental and Urban Planning Directorate, Murat Deniz - Director of Ineada National Park, Rumyana Kostova - Director of Strandzha Park, Carmen Kostache from Danube Cross-Border Cooperation Association region Galati, Liliana Cornea from the National Environmental Protection Service and others.
The project Coordinator Ibrahim Cekic presented the project activities and shared good practices from Turkey.
Vladimir Dimitrov, Chairman of Green Strandzha Association presented the project activities, the eco-camps and the clean-up campaigns on the Black Sea coast and rivers in Strandzha.
Milena Andonova spoke about the importance of early involvement of children and students in environmental activities and their upbringing in environmental protection. Radostina Tsenova, a representative of Biodiversity Foundation, presented Atanasovsko lake and the environmental actions related to the Burgas lakes. Atanas Stoev - Head of the non-hazardous waste landfill in Malko Tarnovo and Marina Dicheva of District government Burgas presented to the audience the good waste management practices in the Municipality of Malko Tarnovo, a campaign to increase the commitment to separate collection and environmental initiatives and good practices for encouraging responsible behavior of citizens in Burgas region. The same topics were presented by Vladimir Poltorak from Ukraine, Marin Tatiana and Nicolae Costileanu from Moldova, and Gabriel Christian George from Romania.
On the second day of the Round Table were presented the results of various environmental projects and studies carried out by local non-governmental organizations, including Ecoprostor, Black Sea Ladies Club and others.
Project MARLENA - BSB 139 is funded by the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020, co-financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and by participating countries: Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine.
