For years, District government Burgas unites various institutions and works actively with volunteers for a cleaner nature and a better living environment.
Administration officials and volunteers disposed of hundreds of kilograms of waste important to the Burgas region. The shores of Lakes Vaya and Atanasovsko lake, the area and the beach around the Ropotamo Reserve now "breathe" calmly. Car tires, old furniture, construction waste, plastic of various origins and various household items are removed from the wetlands.
There are over 200 participants in the three campaigns, conducted under a project of the District government Burgas. Among them are employees of the RIEW, the Municipalities of Burgas and Primorsko, representatives of the Forestry Directorate and the Regional Agriculture Directorate. The participation of the non-governmental sector in the face of the Via Pontica Foundation, NGO "Green Strandzha", "Biodiversity" is also active. The clean-up began on Lake Vaya in mid-July, continued with places around the Ropotamo Reserve and ended at Atanasovsko Lake in the Atanasovska Kosa section.
Among the first to respond to the invitation to clean the shores of wetlands in the region of Burgas are representatives of NGO "Green Strandzha" - a partner in the project Marlena BSB 139 " Marine and River Litter Elimination New Approach " (working against the pollution in the Black Sea, rivers, protected areas and nature reserves near the Black Sea basin) and the Via Pontica Foundation, which successfully implements the RedMarLitter BSB 552 project - "Innovative techniques and methods for reducing marine litter in the coastal areas of the Black Sea." The two non-governmental organizations together with the Municipality of Malko Tarnovo, a partner in the MARLENA project and the Council for Tourism Development in the Municipality of Nessebar, a partner in the ZEWSGES project, signed a Memorandum of cooperation in 2020.
In line with the overall objective of these projects, to improve the well-being of the Black Sea region through sustainable growth and environmental protection, the partners have taken a number of joint actions and have shown that good cooperation leads to more visible results and increases the added value of projects.
