Hundreds of participants from 36 countries around the world, from Spain to Singapore and from Poland to the Philippines, took part in the launch of the Connecting Nature Enterprise platform. This new tool aims to link directly the growing demand on the global market for natural solutions from the public and private sectors with the providers of such solutions (innovative companies developing new sustainable natural solutions).
The benefits of implementing environmentally friendly solutions in urban environments, such as green roofs and walls, sustainable drainage systems, demarcated and maintained wetlands, etc., are well known. However, the economic potential of natural solutions has been less studied so far.
The Connecting Nature Enterprise platform, officially launched by the European Commissions DG Research and Innovation”, and the Mayor of Dublin on Wednesday, 21 October 2020, highlighted the potential of organizations offering environmentally friendly solutions as an emerging economic sector.
The platform was created through the collaboration of Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, whose pilot studies focused on the potential of organizations offering green solutions to help economies achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
The aggregation under the common name "nature-based enterprises" of a number of existing market sectors from landscape architecture to green building shows the potential of this sector as a source of employment and sustainable economic growth.
The Connecting Nature project, coordinated by Trinity College, Dublin and involving the Municipality of Burgas as a key partner, is funded by Horizon 2020, focused on large-scale implementation of natural solutions in urban environments in response to climate change.
With the support of the UN and the EC, the demand and implementation of natural solutions has increased significantly in recent years, in line with the recognition that they can provide up to 30% of the measures needed to mitigate the effects of global warming.
However, the obstacle that is emerging now is that there are not enough qualified and experienced suppliers to meet this rapidly growing demand. It is for this reason that the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform provides an opportunity for a direct link between demand (municipalities, companies, etc.) and supply (innovative companies offering environmentally friendly solutions) on a global scale.
If you think that your organization offers environmentally friendly services and solutions or you are looking for a partner to support you in the implementation of your innovative ideas, you can register in the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform (https://www.naturebasedenterprise.eu/) and to take advantage of the opportunities it offers.
