Zero waste after the festival of Periwinkle in Nature park Strandja
The 16th edition of the Periwinkle Festival this year was held on 11th and 12th of May in the village of Kosti, Tsarevo Municipality. The mayor of Malko Tarnovo - Ilian Yanchev and Vladimir Dimitrov - Chairman of Green Strandja convinced the participants to protect the waters and nature of Strandja and presented the objectives of the MARLENA project: Marine and River Litter Elimination New Approach / MARLENA” MIS ETC Code: 139 and one of MARLENAs goals to unite the forces against pollution along the Black Sea coast and rivers, protected areas and nature reserves near the Black Sea basin. Situated in the picturesque valley of the Veleka River, the village of Kosti is surrounded by mountain hills and centuried-old forests. To the southeast of the village of Kosti, above the area St.Virgin Mary, is the oldest beech in Strandzha, about 800 years old. The location of the village is also very favorable for walks along the valley of the Veleka River, both via Brodilovo to Sinemorets and Ahtopol, as well as to the flow towards Kachul and Gramatikovo, to the north towards Bulgari and others. The rich program included attractions such as Taste Adventure, Culinary Contest, Stranja Treasures Photo Competition, Photo hunting of rare plants, songs and dancing under the sounds of Strandzha music; tourist routes; demonstrations of local customs and traditions. Relay race organized by Green Strandja NGO. Vladimir Dimitrov from Green Strandja NGO was awarded with a special plaque for tourism development in the region of Strandja and for the education of responsible behavior among the participants. Tourists that attended the Festival of periwinkle in village Kosti Bulgaria left the venue with Zero waste.
