The rules on disposable plastic articles and fishing gear provide for different measures that apply to different products and place the EU at the forefront of the global fight against marine litter. Where there are alternatives available and affordable, the placing on the market of disposable plastic articles such as cutlery, plates and straw shall be prohibited. In the case of other products, emphasis is placed on limiting the use, by reducing national consumption, on design and labeling requirements and on the obligations of producers in waste management / disposal.
