An open lesson on separate waste collection with the children from Kindergarten "Yuri Gagarin" was held this week in the town of Malko Tarnovo. In the form of a game, the children learned how to protect nature, dispose the waste separately and keep the environment clean.
Some of the children from the garden took part in the past annual campaign "Book for garbage“ under the MARLENA project. They told the younger ones what they had learned about separate waste collection and in which container the waste should be placed according to its type. A special guest of the event was Eng. Rumyana Tsvyatkova - Director of DPP "Strandzha".
She told the children where is the right place for the garbage s in the park and in nature - in the backpack. When the children find a container, they should divide the garbage by its type and dispose it separately.
The campaign “Book for garbage” was part of a large-scale campaign for separate waste collection, organized by the Municipality of Malko Tarnovo in 2019. The opening of the campaign started on 17th of August with promotional materials to encourage local people to collect and dispose the garbage separately. A truck and 27 containers for separate waste collection were purchased under the MARLENA project: „Marine and River Litter Elimination New Approach". Thousands of brochures and guidelines with information on how to sort waste and collect it were distributed among the residents of Malko Tarnovo municipality; a guidebook with good practices for waste management in the Black Sea Basin was distributed to citizens, institutions and other stakeholders.
The children from Kindergarten "Yuri Gagarin" showed knowledge and skills for separate waste collection during quizzes, games and atelier "Collect separately and recycle for clean rivers, sea and forests", and each received numerous and interesting gifts.
